Hah! I just dug this up. I wrote it for an Internet awareness training course in 2002. I’ve just made a couple of minor amendments, but I think it’s probably good enough to share:

1976
I spent 1976 based in Christchurch, and travelling around New Zealand. Being only three (going on four) at the time the most vivid memories I have are of the bad smell in Rotorua and the paddling pool in Hagley Park.

Early in the 20th Century my great grandfather’s brother worked his way round the world on a ship out of Liverpool. Some time – and 178 degrees of latitude – later he jumped ship in Wellington, New Zealand, where he set up a printing business.
